Connecticut Charm | Washington Depot

Like many Connecticut towns, Washington Depot is a collection of villages.  Washington, Marbledale, New Preston, and Woodville all make up the town of Washington Depot. This beautiful village was named after General George Washington who was known to travel through the area during the Revolutionary War. However, to many millennials, Washington Depot is known as the inspirational town that brought Gilmore Girls to life. There is no Luke’s Diner, Independence Inn, or gazebo, but the small main street does have a lovely river, Marty’s café, a sweet local market, a hardware store, The Mayflower Grace Inn, numerous places to eat, and a gorgeous bookshop.

Visit the town early to stop by Marty’s café for a nice cup of tea. We didn’t make it before closing, but I will definitely have to go inside next time we drive through town.

Picnic benches are located in nearly every green space in town.

It finally feels like Spring. Seeing all the flowering trees comes into bloom has me excited for warmer days at last.

These grey flats are my favorite go-to shoe because they go with pants or dresses and they match nearly everything. Grey Merona Flats I found this dress on a clearance rack for about eight dollars six years ago and it is definitely one of my favorites. I love polka dots. They’re pretty timeless. Here are a few affordable Target dresses that are pretty similar if you are looking for a polka dotted dress this Spring: Women’s Blue Polka Dot Maxi DressPolka Dot Shirt Dress, or this Red Polka Dot Dress The Kate Spade clutch was a gift, yet Target has a hot pink clutch that is similar in color and size: Hot Pink Clutch

I have successfully made the switch to all natural and organic makeup and now I finally found some natural hair care to match my new routine. I’m giving up my flat iron! As a naturally curly girl living in a straight hair world, I had always been curl-shamed. I didn’t know how to take care of my hair or how to feel confident with it natural, so I have made a challenge for myself to wear it only curly, even in pictures. Right now my hair is still in the transitioning stage of my curly hair journey, but I am hoping that it will be healthy, full, and volumous again soon. This SheMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie is really helping lock n moisture and this natural Kinky-Curly Natural Hair Gel helps diminish frizz. I tried dozens of products before I finally found these.

This is the sweetest little town green:Oh how I love book shops!Let’s go inside.I will be coming here again soon. I’ll stop on by and bring a new book to Marty’s Cafe.

There are numerous gorgeous homes tucked away into the landscape, like these sweet farm style homes. On our way in we saw gorgeous historical colonial houses as well as intricate mansions with incredible ponds and landscaping. I couldn’t pull over to take photos of the incredible homes we saw on our way into town, but I promise it is worth a drive through. Washington Depot is also home to numerous parks, a beautiful lake with a public beach, and great places to eat like the GW Tavern. The Institute for American Indian Studies Museum and Research Center also has a home in Washington Depot. I am looking forward to spending a good half a day exploring the museum. It has way too much to offer to simply stop by on a weekday evening. The Hidden Valley Eatery:The Gunn Memorial Library is also a museum. Our last stop was the Mayflower Grace, As expected, it was very busy on a Friday evening. Cars and people were lined out in front of the building so I was not able to get a great photo, but it will give me something to look forward to when I drive through town again soon for my cafe and bookshop experience. What do you love most about Washington Depot?
