Autumn in New England is perhaps my favorite time of the year. Of course activities such as apple picking and farm visits usually top my list for autumn activities, but today I want to share with you some truly incredible seasonal experiences that go way beyond your typical autumn adventures, especially for Halloween. I have a list of the most unique, the spookiest, and the most surprising activities and events for your New England adventures this fall.
One. The Sleepy Hollow Experience. At Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts, you can experience a live immersive theater experience like no other. Old colonial village at night? Check. Local foods like New England clam chowder? Check. Headless horseman running right by you in the dark? Super check. Not recommended for young children, but perfectly entertaining as well as scary for the adults, welcome to this immersive theater experience. You have to see if for yourself.
Two. Witch Paddle. Witches on paddle boards? A spooktacular combination! There are several going on around New England before Halloween including a witch paddle in Mystic, Connecticut.
Three. The Great Salem Pumpkin Walk. Many people visit Salem for Halloween, but what about going for a pumpkin walk through downtown before the crowds converge? Salem hosts a self-guided pumpkin walk where businesses stay open into the night and you can walk around to admire the pumpkin displays and decorations. Takes place October 17th.
Four. All Hollow’s Eve Party At the Castle. In Providence, RI on the 26th you can celebrate Old Hollows Eve with a formal and spooky affair. Ticket prices are expensive for this event, but if a formal Halloween haunt is for you, I would check it out.
Five. The Haunted Graveyard. As far as haunted houses go, this one is my favorite. You go through a spooky castle, set after set of haunted houses and corridors, a haunted graveyard, and even a wooden area. This is not some quick haunted house; you’ll be in there for a while so it is not for the faint of heart. It is the largest Halloween attraction in all of New England!
Bonus: Not quite in New England, but in the tri-state area you will find the Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze at Sleep Hollow. Right in the town where the legend takes place, you can walk through a jack-o-lantern festival with well over a thousand pumpkin carved lanterns! Its quite magical and great for people of all ages. While in Sleepy Hollow, stop by the cute down town or the old graveyard where the people from the legends are in eternal rest.
Have you visited any of the spooky New England attractions? I would love to hear all about it in the comments below.
