7th Annual Autumn In New England
Today is the first day of Autumn. I started an Autumn in New England blog series seven years ago as a way to share my autumnal New England adventures and also to share local gems of my home this time of year. It has since expanded to include cozy autumnal crafts, recipes, books, activities and more. Every Autumn I enjoy the season, and I explore and take photos, but I have not been the best at sharing those adventures on my blog.
As a wedding photographer, Autumn is my busy season, and I end up editing client photos over my own. By the time I get to my photos to share, it’s already the holiday season and Autumn is behind us. I cannot even begin to tell you how many wonderful blog posts I started creating that have never been shared.
I wish I could say that this year will be better, but it’s looking like another abundant October of weddings, engagements and other photo shoots. Still, I’m going to try my absolute best to at least share something once a week for this cozy fall series. In fact, I started early with a blog post sharing a crab apple jam recipe with crab apples I collected right from our backyard. It’s the exact kind of cozy recipe and blog post that I want to share more of this season.

Looking Back At Autumn In New England
Over the years I have shared many wonderful autumnal adventures with you. Some of my favorite include my annual visits to the Bethlehem Fair during New England’s Fair Season. We have enjoyed apple picking season at numerous local orchards including an old favorite, Blue Jay Orchards and Woodstock Orchards. I shared my favorites cider mills in Connecticut like B. F. Clyde’s and Hogan’s Cider Mill. I have shared autumnal adventures to Salem Massachusetts, a cabin retreat in Vermont, a stunning retreat at the lovely hidden gem Winvian Farm, and a tour of Mystic based on the movie Mystic Pizza.

We’ve gone car camping in New Hampshire and made crafts like this Thanksgiving felt pie garland and read cozy autumnal books. My favorite cozy recipe to curl up with a good book with is my turkey chili recipe. If you’re a big fan of Halloween and witchy reads you probably enjoyed this blog post. We have had some fun witch themed photo shoots like this one with Matthew and I. And my thrifty friends may have enjoyed this blog post with thrifted treasures.

Autumn In New England 2025
This year, most of our adventures have been close to home, which has only made me appreciate our little corner of New England even more. We’ll be mostly local this season. I’m grateful to live in a place with so many trees, parks, beaches, mountains and lakes. It’s a nature lover’s paradise for kayaking, hiking, swimming and bicycling. I am also grateful, now more than ever, to live in a place where I can access medical treatment and vaccines any time I need them. And while there are forces attempting harm to our libraries, hospitals and schools, we stand firm in protecting access to books, medicine, science and education. It’s the kind of patriotism I grew up feeling proud of. New England truly is a wonderful place to live, and I am thankful to have the opportunity to share the beauty of this land and the wonderful communities that live here.
This year I am keeping the Autumn in New England series cozy and simple. I’m bringing you more recipes and crafts. I will be sharing cozy autumnal reads and activities you can do at home for little to no cost. Our hearts need comfort right now and it is my hope that this little series brings joy and comfort to you as well. I will also be sharing my New England adventures at local farms and destinations. Together we can bring more joy, whimsy and comfort into this cozy season.
