A Date Night In Venice | Venice, Italy | Live Lovely Travel

On our honeymoon we had more romantic date nights than I remember having in the past few years combined. It’s not that we don’t go out, we often do, but somewhere along the line our dates got more casual. Being in Venice for our honeymoon was the perfect excuse to dress up above the norm. Somehow, we both still carried on wearing red as he had earlier in the day. The city itself is so vibrant, even in the rain.

The rain sprinkled on and off all night, but it only added to the mysterious Venetian atmosphere. Our first order of business was to stroll along the canals hand-in-hand, taking in the sights at sunset.

My handsome date night companion:If you didn’t know this about me, it is about time you heard; I am the world’s biggest Indiana Jones fan! If you have seen the third (and one of my personal favorites from the series) film, it takes place in the 1940’s and starts in Venice. I took a little movie inspiration with this 1940’s style dress. Which brings us to the specific church; the San Barnaba. This is the “library” from the third Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, where he breaks open the floor to find a catacomb where a map is hidden. So awesome. The canals look amazing when it begins to get dark and the lights reflect on the water. We were in Venice shortly before the World Cup, so football (soccer) fans lined every outdoor restaurant with a television to watch the games. A romantic table for two. When in Italy in the summertime, eating indoors is just not an option. I am always one to try the local specialties. On the menu: black cuttlefish squid ink pasta. Was it good? I would say so, but I don’t think I would order it over other Italian pastas.

Matthew kept talking about it, and when I told him that I didn’t want to think that much about it, “just let me eat it,” he started to laugh. “It wasn’t that funny,” I said. He only laughed harder. Apparently, squid ink pasta turns your mouth black. He said I looked like a zombie. Very romantic. Pro travel tip: skip the squid ink pasta if you want to end your date night with a kiss. We ended the evening with a romantic stroll back to our Airbnb.
