A Very Special Hallmark Movie Filmed In Connecticut | Christmas At Pemberley Manor

As much as I love a romantic holiday movie, I usually avoid Hallmark’s Christmas Movie Countdown until December because it starts right after Halloween! Personally, I prefer to wait until December 1st, but this year I could not help myself because Hallmark’s first original Christmas film of the year was filmed during my stay at the very house the movie plot was centered around! Pemberley Manor from the film is actually a lovely home on the Connecticut shoreline that is also rented out as an Airbnb.

For my wedding I wanted to get ready with my bridesmaids in a home instead of a hotel and my family home and apartment was much too far from our wedding venue. I found this lovely home on Airbnb and was really surprised when the hosts told us that a Hallmark movie was being filmed there. During our stay, they cleared out the holiday decorations and the film crew. It truly is just as magical as you see it in the movie, except there was no snow when we were there. It still amazes me that all of their holiday movies are filmed during the summertime!

As you can see, with some lovely props and computer editing, this summer home was turned into a Christmas classic. Mr. Darcy is trying to sell his old family home while Elizabeth Bennett is an event planner trying to use the old mansion for the town’s Christmas festival. If the names of the Characters don’t clue you in, Hallmark’s Christmas at Pemberley Manor is a modern Christmas adaption of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Along with the lovely home, the movie was also filmed on location in the town of Essex, one of my favorite Connecticut small towns. I knew it right away when I saw it in the background of the movie.

The hotel where Elizabeth stays in is the historic Griswold Inn, although the interior of her hotel room was actually filmed on the third floor of the mansion, the exact floor that we rented out for our wedding.

All of the photos from the Hallmark movie belong to Hallmark Channel. However, these are the photos from our own stay at “Pemberley Manor” that I took during our visit.

This lovely historic mansion once belonged to a suffragette! We rented out the third story apartment. There were many lovely details in the decorating that I absolutely loved and reassured me that I chose the right place. I love fairies. Particularly Cicely Mary Barker and Brian Froud’s illustrations. I was amazed to find both artists decorating the rooms. It was so dark and rainy the day before, but the morning of our wedding the sun was shining bright. With such a lovely place and some quiet moments, I did take some photos of our rooms and of my wedding prep. People jokingly asked me if I was going to photograph my own wedding. For that, we actually hired VO Photographers. I shared a few of the photos they took at “Pemberley” at the end of this post. Beautiful illustrations and paintings of the mansion were placed around the house, like this lovely view of the house with the church next door in a frame on the desk in my guest room “bridal suite.” Another Hallmark holiday film was also filmed in Connecticut, Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane, but Christmas at Pemberley will be our new holiday movie tradition year after year because of the lovely memories we created there.
