The Little Things No. 3

The little things really do add up, which is why every Friday I want to end the week on a positive note by appreciation for the little things in my life that make up a greater sense of joy.  I hope you join me today in appreciating the good, no matter how small.

Because this is about appreciation rather than perfection, I’m not only including my professional quality photos, but some cellphone snaps as well. You can expect to see a more candid look into my life every week with my The Little Things blog posts every Friday.

“It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.”
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

The little things that brought joy into my life this week:

This clean bedroom.

I finally finished cleaning our bedroom and it feels so good! I call the loft in our tiny apartment “the tower” because it is in an old factory building and our loft feels like going up into a tower with the brick walls, wooden ceilings, and metal beams running across the top. It was feeling very dreary like a tower too. Now it feels more like a tree house and I want to spend all of my time up there.

This book.

Let’s just say that it is sparking a revolution in our tiny household.

This cozy blanket.

This Nantucket throw blanket by Tide Hill Home is big enough to fit on our queen sized bed and it is so warm as an extra layer of covers this winter.

This Connecticut tea/hand towel.

I love this tiny state. Need I say more?

This old mirror.

It looks really chic, but it is actually made of plastic. This mirror is very old and it used to hang in my Nana’s bedroom. She had it over her bureau since before I was born. I didn’t really keep anything of her’s except for some old photos and hand written recipe cards of her mother’s. I was looking for a mirror for our bedroom when my dad gave me her old one. It makes me think of her.

These two.

Every time Matthew would lean forward to play video games this week, Madeleine would climb in and squish her little body behind him to cuddle. If he moved too far away she would scooch closer to him. He was so involved in the game he didn’t realize that she was there at first until he went to lean back. Madeleine was #notamused. I love the little bond these two share.

This record by Kasey Musgraves.

Kasey Musgraves is one of my favorite artists and I adore her music. Her song writing is absolutely lovely and she deserved the Grammy she won for this one.

This window light.

It has been so dark lately. In our tiny apartment, the sun only reaches inside between 10 a.m. until noon on a really sunny day. On grey days it is so dark that I have to turn on the lights to see anything. So when I get to enjoy it, I make the most of it. (So does Madeleine, if can tell.)

What are you appreciative of this week?
