About a month ago we got our first real snow of the season. So naturally, I rushed outside in the early morning eager to take some photos. Actually, I bundled up on the sofa with my fluffy robe and some blankets to edit photos in the safety and warmth of my cocoon inside. My husband Matthew called me on his way into work and said the snow looked beautiful on all of the trees and that it was likely to melt away so I should go out and take some fun photos for Instagram and my blog. I didn’t quite want to leave my warm blanket pile, but then I thought about it.
“You can wear a red coat and it will pop out against the snow, ” Matthew told me. It sparked an idea. Not a red coat, but that red dress I’ve had in my closet. And that beautiful crown I’ve been holding onto for photo shoots and haven’t used yet. I could also bring a lantern and pretend to be a wanderer in the snowy woods. Since the end of last year I’ve been trying to just get creative and so self portraits for the sake of learning to pose, getting more confident on the other side of the camera, and just for creative fun. It was chilly, but being December it wasn’t as cold as January or February so it was manageable. I drove down the road to my favorite old carriage road in the woods and set up my tripod.
Lantern in hand I walked back and forth and spun around, feeling quite self conscious and silly every time a car or a dog walker went by.
And then one kind lady told me that I looked like a snow princess and I was very flattered. I felt like a snow princess.
So while I have shared a few of these photos on Instagram, I thought it was about time that I shared more of my “just for fun” photography on the blog. I haven’t done photo shoots like this since I was a college student learning how to take photos. It feels extra creative and fun to get back into it again and to create for the sake of learning new things and pushing my creativity.
Thank you for coming onto this creative journey with me. I appreciate that you are here.
