It’s such a little thing, but I am so happy that I found this vintage vanity chair. I love thrifting because I am a girl on a budget, I love vintage, and it is better for the environment. Ever since moving into happiness house I have been looking for a vintage vanity chair to place in the guest room as an extra little seat and to use as a decorative mini side table to place next to the day bed.
We are renting the upstairs of an old home. Happiness House was built in 1886. I like decorating with older objects than going completely modern, although this chair from the 1950s or 1960s is much more modern in comparison to our home.
Last week I found this one at our local Goodwill. A few weeks ago I finally resigned myself to not purchasing one because the cost of your typical vanity chair. Vintage vanity chairs run anywhere between $75 to $300. I’m not quite certain why. But I found this one for only $6! I instantly took it up and told it that “You’re coming home with me,” and that was that.

I arrived home from my solo date (I take myself out on little date nights to bookstores, craft stores, parks, ect. and last week I took myself on a thrifting trip to Goodwill) with this vanity chair in tow. My husband Matthew was a little surprised. “You can buy more, flip them, and resell them,” he suggested after I told him how much they go for. -Probably not going to happen. It took me ages just to find this one.
At first I was thinking about spray painting the metal of the chair a white or even a gold, but I actually love the black contrast against the all white walls in our apartment. The seat, however, needs to change.

I admit, the green has grown on me. But the chair fabric is dirty and stained. It needs to be redone. I’m thinking something floral. I like the idea of another green fabric, but much lighter like a soft sage green or a shade of eucalyptus. Buying the fabric to cover the seat won’t cost much at all because it is so small, the problem is in finding the right fabric.

There is a cute vintage fabric shop right in town just a few minutes walk up the hill from our home, but they didn’t have much for green fabrics at the moment so I’m still searching. It may take a while. I brought home a sample, but it wasn’t right.
Last summer I thrifted a kitchen chair from Goodwill. Several months later I have finally found a fabric I like for the thrifted kitchen chair and it arrived this week. I will work on that project first and keep an eye out for fabrics for this vanity chair in the meantime.

For now, I am simply enjoying this darling little chair.
