Designing A Tea Room | Hill Top Cottage

I am feeling very grateful today. A few months ago my husband and I were worried about finding a place to rent and having no where to go. And now, here we are, living in a lovely rental home in the town we love. We do not own a home yet, but I feel secure and safe here. Sometimes I feel bad that I do not own a house in my mid-thirties. We’re pressured to have achieved certain things by a certain age, but then I remind myself how so many people do not have homes at all. I can see incredible homes and farm houses in glossy magazines, on television, and on social media and it becomes far too easy to wish to have that too. But gosh, how lucky I am.

When I think those things, I remind myself to “Be grateful!”

This may not be my dream home, or even my forever home, but it is my home right now and I am making the most of it. I am so thankful to be decorating and slowly transforming this cottage into a cozy safe place.

I am also so thankful to have started up my YouTube channel again. I started my YouTube a couple years ago as a way to express and challenge myself. Video is hard. Putting myself out there is even harder. I make mistakes and I am still finding my voice. But how wonderful it is to share things I enjoy and connect with kindred spirits in a new artistic medium. If you are interested in finding my channel, you can find me here. Occasionally I will be sharing video links for you here on the blog. I am particularly excited about sharing this one, because it is my first video to receive a comment and over 100 views.

I felt too embarrassed to share my videos with my friends and online followers at first. It was a very vulnerable feeling. But I have decided to put myself out there and so far it has been rewarding and filling a creative niche I never knew I missed.

In this video, my second chapter at Hill Top Cottage, I visit the Book Barn in Niantic, develop film in a dark room, give TLC to thrifted chairs and a thrifted mixing bowl, start the design of the cottage tea room, and show you how to make handkerchief bunting.

Thank you for supporting my creative endeavors. I am thankful that you are here!
