Mae Mae’s Apple Dump Cake Recipe | Live Lovely Recipes

lovely-28Apple dump cake is my favorite baking recipe this time of year. It is a recipe from my grandmother, Mae Mae, and it has been my favorite go-to since college. Easy, quick, and affordable, but the best part is how incredible it tastes! “Dump cake” doesn’t sound like a delicious title. It was a type of recipe named because you literally dump all the ingredients into the dish and bake. Voila! Everyone who I have made it for asked for it again and again so I thought the best solution would be to share how you can make it yourself at home.

There are two ways: You can make the pie filling and ingredients yourself, or you can go the easy way and follow this recipe listed here.

First, you need your glass baking dish:

  • One can of apple pie filling (My personal favorite is the carmel and apple pie filling, but you can use any of your favorites. It does not have to be apple if you prefer cherry, blueberry, or even peach.)
  • One box of Jiffy golden yellow cake mix
  • One stick of butter

Jiffy really is the best for this recipe, although any yellow cake mix will work. The size and flavor of Jiffy cannot be beat for this recipe. Sadly, Jiffy Yellow Cake Mix has been hard to find. It usually comes out around the holidays for all the baking. When I see it, I always stock up! lovely-14alovely-16Step 3: Melt your butter then evenly pour it over your cake mix creating a golden yellow layer on top. lovely-17alovely-20Make sure to cover the top evenly. lovely-26aStep 4: Bake for one hour at 350 degrees. I suggest setting your timer for 40 minutes just in case. The top should look golden and maybe even a little brown on top, but never brunt. If it still looks yellow and gooey it will need more time to bake. While it cooks, enjoy a glass of wine, or in my case water in a  wine glass.
