I have a very big announcement for Live Lovely Photography! As most of you may know, I am a solo photojournalist; capturing each wedding on my own. That will be somewhat changing as of 2019. Here is your first hint: If you follow me on Instagram @LiveLovelyPhotography you might have seen the latest drone photos on my feed every now and then.
When I first started doing wedding photography almost eight years ago, I dreamed of teaming up with my husband Matthew (who was my boyfriend at the time) to go off on photography adventures together as a photography duo like many of the married couples who photograph together. Although we both share a passion for adventure and travel, photography was my thing and engineering was his. I never would have considered asking him to join me as a photographer. It simply was not meant to be and that was perfectly ok. That is, until Matthew discovered his love for drone photography last year. After being together for almost twelve years, I never thought I would see the day when Matthew would ask to join me at a wedding or engagement session. Over the years he has helped me as an assistant at big weddings, but never as a photographer, especially as enthusiastic as he is now.
Suddenly, he was begging to come with me to surprise my couples with drone images at their engagement session and making them very happy with his drone images (as well as creative input throughout the photo shoot). Because of strict drone regulations in the U.S. and of course, unpredictable weather and wind conditions, droning is not always possible, but he took every opportunity he could get. Matthew started asking me questions about manually setting a camera for different lighting scenarios and he started doing countless hours of research, tutorials, and practice excursions around New England.
We often team up for travel photography on my blog and he has been known to help me take portraits on many occasions, but he officially asked to join my team as a professional drone photographer the other week and I had to say yes! As a photojournalist styled photographer, I cannot waste precious time flying a drone when I need to get the shot on the ground, but during special events and at beautiful locations, drone imagery can truly enhance the experience and the final product for my couples. Now that I have been doing more destination weddings and adventurous proposals, engagements, and elopements, I knew that this would be the best possible idea for not just my business, but for the couples that I work with. We are both very happy to now be able to provide this unique service to the couples in New England and around the world.
It is with great excitement that I announce that Matthew (on Instagram as @worldsofdiscovery) is joining Live Lovely Photography as my official professional drone photographer!
Flying a drone is hard work! When Matthew first started out I witnessed him fly it into a tree. We had to call in my cousin Brian who owns a tree company to help us get it down! But then he started to improve. Not just as a pilot, but also with composition and technical skills. Shortly after he was meeting me at engagement sessions then a wedding and yet another wedding. In July 2020 he will be joining me at a destination wedding in Tuscany as the official drone photographer! We’re looking forward to offering destination wedding photography together as a team.
This year he is also getting his drone license and starting videography so we may start vlogging with the travel posts for my blog. It is amazing to see Live Lovely Photography grow and evolve over the years from simple wedding photography to growing into stunning weddings, engagements, destination photography, adventurous proposals, elopements, and travel and lifestyle blogging. And I am so happy to be teaming up with Matthew on projects that we are now both passionate about. I truly believe that it will take Live Lovely Photography, the weddings, the blog, and our relationship to the next level. We cannot wait to see where this brings us next!
