Our first morning in Oia, Santorini, I awoke early in the morning before Matthew. The bright sunrise was filtering in through the window shutters and I opened them to reveal the vibrant blue of the Santorini waters, my first sighting of our view during the day. We had arrived later in the evening when the island was lit up with cave house lights. The view of the ocean was cloaked in darkness. I decided to go for an early morning walk on my own and let Matthew sleep in because he was tired from our long journey. As our suitcase was misplaced in Rome by the airline, I knew we would need a few supplies like toothpaste and shampoo. I set out on a mission to pick up what we needed and explore the town.
As I left our cave house, I briefly wondered if I would remember how to get back. I figured that getting lost in Oia was a part of the adventure and that I would make my way back eventually.
Within minutes of reaching the shopping area and without even planning on it, I stumbled upon a book store. You can always count on me to find a book shop, no matter where I am in the world. Unfortunately, I arrived before opening. I decided to continue my mission to pick up our essentials and return on my way back.
With my mission complete, I made my way back through town to Atlantis Books, right on time for opening.
I read every sign and quote on my way down the steps.
Inside was a wonderland of books!
Selling both new and used books, Atlantis Books reminded me of the Book Barn back home in Connecticut. I made myself right at home!
I even found the full series for an antique book I have at home. This collection is a bit out of my price range though:
And my favorite book of all time (first edition!):
I came back later that evening with Matthew and we discovered the top patio, a haven for book browsing and reading away from the crowds.
We returned once again before leaving Santorini at the end of our honeymoon. I brought back a lovely copy of “The Fox and the Star,” stamped with the Atlantis Books seal on the inside to remember our journey.
