Chelsea and Brandon’s spring engagement session at Harkness Memorial State Park was postponed the first try because of some terrible weather, but our second time around gave us this stunning summer-like day. I still can’t get over all of the amazing and vibrant colors from the blue sky and water to the vibrant green grass and ivy covered walls.
An even better bonus was this really fun kite flying event going on at the park. I love when something fun and unexpected comes up during a photo shoot. When Chelsea and Brandon arrived at the park I told them that I had this really fun idea that I simply had to try. “I want to photograph you both with the kites!” I told them. I’m sure it sounded crazy, but the results were so worth it.
There was a wedding going on at Eolia mansion, so we stayed away from the building and the gardens and opted to explore the carriage house and the beach instead. Even though there were hundreds of guests at the park that day, we found some beautiful areas at Harkness and had them all to ourselves with a little bit of patience. These ivy walls are simply magical.
Every time I take engagement ring photos I’m sure I look a little odd, make that very odd. I use my little Fujifilm X 100 T camera because it has the absolute best macro mode (who needs to buy a new lens when you’ve got this awesome camera at your disposal?) and I hover over the object which I deem lovely enough to display the ring, in this case, this green bush on the ground. It looks really funny, but I always love the results I’m able to envision. And it is so much fun showing my couples the results of my weird hovering and kneeling over a plant or whatever surface I may be using. I call the process my ring dance. These must be my favorite ring photos this year.
To complete our engagement session at Harkness, we wrapped up the photo shoot at this lovely daffodil field at sunset. The sun was so incredibly bright that day, but it created this amazing glowing atmosphere and vibrant colors.
Congratulations, Chelsea and Brandon! I am so honored to be your wedding photographer and I am looking forward to your big day this Autumn!
