June is Festival Month in New Haven! The concerts are planned by The International Festival For Arts & Ideas. You can check out their website for local concerts and festivals in your area. On Saturday night we laid out a blanket on the New Haven Green, the oldest public green in the country, for a free concert to see The Wailers and Rusted Root play. When you come to the green you will want to park in the Temple Street Garage if you cannot find street parking.
We picked up lunch at Pitaziki Mediterranean Grill. I had never had a rice bowl before and it was amazing. I wasn’t going to try the yogurt sauce at first, but I am so thankful I did! A couple years ago my new years resolution was “try new things” and it still resonates with me. I have discovered so many wonderful people, places, and foods because of it.
I dressed for the occasion in a tie-dye dress my mother brought back for me from her honeymoon. I blended right in with the party crowd.
There was a lot of dancing in the front, but it was quiet picnicking for fmailies in the back. A great event for people of all ages.
For this little local trip, I took along my Fujifilm X100T 16 MP Digital Camera because it is compact and easy to carry. It got a lot of attention and compliments from people thinking it was an old retro film camera, but the great thing about it is that it does not look expensive like my large Nikon. Ideal for crowded places and travel.
The Wailers is best known for being Bob Marley’s band. They played many of his best known songs.
If you grew up in the 90’s then you know Rusted Root best for their song “Send me on my way.” This song is my adventure anthem. I play it every time I am starting a road trip.
You bet I danced the night away, especially when my song came on!
Rusted Root ended the night with David Bowie’s Rebel Rebel. (I love David Bowie!) They really worked the crowd. If you get the chance this summer, go to an outdoor concert, even if you don’t know the band or are a big fan of the music genre, you’ll be surprised by just how much fun you will have.
