Connecticut Charm | Mystic Pizza | "A Slice of Heaven"

Even if you have not seen the film “Mystic Pizza” that brought Julia Roberts to stardom, you will find your own little slice of heaven here in Mystic. Mystic is one of my favorite Connecticut shoreline towns (and there are so many great towns to choose from) because I love the nostalgic feel, the sense of community, the abundant history, and the buzz of a new adventure about to begin. Make sure you take the time to stroll into town and pass the beautiful historic homes.

I often come to Mystic to revive my spirit when it is feeling down and to soak up the energy.

On weekends in the summer, this town is packed with locals and tourists alike. The best time to come is early in the day on a weekday.

There are numerous attractions in town such as the Old Mystic Seaport Museum, the Mystic aquarium, Olde Mystick Village, and the beautiful downtown. In downtown you will find many lovely shops and restaurants. Peppergrass & Tulip is a beautiful gift shop. The clothing here reminds me of the Victorian era, but they have the most amazing shelf of pop-up books. They are magical. Every year my father makes a special trip to this store to pick up a new book for my collection.

The Mystic Spice & Tea Exchange has the most incredible spices, sauces, dips, and teas. You can even find flavored sugars and salts. I will definitely be coming back this summer to make a full post on the Exchange.

Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream is right in front of the drawbridge. You can’t miss it, nor will you want to when you peak at the creative murals inside. I always grab a small scoop of peach.

Take your ice cream down to the pier and watch boats, kayaks, and paddle boards go by. On weekends you may be surprised by concerts popping up on the green. Once on a weekday afternoon we came across of group of ballroom dancers dancing the evening away by the water.

The Candy Shop is right on the pier next to Mystical Toys.

This little bookstore carries an incredible collection of books with a wide range of topics. You can also find a great collection of local guides and writers. You know you have found Bank Square Books when you see the painted whale.

Many people believe that the movie Mystic Pizza inspired the restaurant, but it was really the other way around. This beautiful town inspired the movie. In North Stonington CT you can also find their second location, conveniently named “Mystic Pizza 2.”
