Not too long ago Matthew and I had our food tasting for our wedding with A Thyme To Cook catering in North Stonington Connecticut. One of the stipulations of signing the contract with our wedding venue was that we had to go with one of their approved caterers. I was nervous at first, but after contacting each one, we were very excited to learn more about A Thyme To Cook. They are the only certified green organic caterers in New England and their business supports local farms and their food is delicious. As someone who worries about the environment and the impact our wedding would have, this made me feel really good about our choice.
I was even more surprised to discover that A Thyme To Cook also provided the best value out of the caterers we researched. They include silverware, plates, bowls, glasses, and mugs with the food so they are not an additional fee, like many caterers in the area. The only thing extra we had to pay for are linen rentals for napkins and tablecloths. We also have a lovely planner included with our catering. Krystie has been an immense help with the planning process, keeping us on track, and will also be there to assist us on the wedding day.
The most cost effective way to serve the meal was by plate instead of buffet or family style as those two options require extra qualities of food. We decided on a chicken, fish, and vegan option to keep the menu simple but elegant. After choosing a Mediterranean spiced chicken and a herbed cod, we were thrilled to try the menu for ourselves. My younger sister is the maid of honor and her thoughts on the food choice was instrumental to complete our menu.
A Thyme To Cook’s office and kitchen is the cutest little building in Connecticut.
We arrived on a day with a fresh patch of snow. We were guided into a lovely sitting room where we discussed our options for dishes, silverware, timing, and seating for the wedding reception. Our hors d’oeuvres: crab cakes (as a tribute to our time living in Maryland), avocado toasts, chicken parmesan sliders, honey brie tartlets (my personal favorite), and Mediterranean meat balls. Every choice was amazing. I also cannot wait to sample out bruschetta bar at the cocktail hour. This will be my meal on the wedding day: herbed cod with glazed carrots and fingerling potatoes. Matthew’s favorite: The Mediterranean spiced chicken. It was so good I’m having a hard time deciding which one I like best. The meal is also served with a fresh organic salad with vinaigrette, organic strawberries, and goat cheese. Our wedding day is quickly approaching. If you have the opportunity to have a food tasting with your caterer I would highly recommend it. It was a fun experience, one of those exciting moments when you realize yet again that this is really happening. June 16th is not too far away…
