I have to say that we are blessed with amazing friends. As a professional photographer, I photograph many couples, but I also take a lot of photos for my friends and family on the side. Every month I take anywhere between 8,000-12,000 photos! Of course, I don’t edit them all, but editing just the keepers is a full time job. Taking the photo is the easy part; it is the archiving, uploading, converting, editing, and downloading that takes all my time. When it comes to my photos, my clients always come first. My blog comes second because a girl has to hustle, leaving my family and friends in last place for photos. Sometimes I’m sure the wait feels like forever. I sent a handful of photos to them through e-mail right away, but Garret and Caroline waited a full two months to see these and they did not harass me about them once. As I said, I’m blessed with amazing friends.
At the beginning of May we went on a trip together to Arizona. Little did Caroline know that Garret was planning a proposal. Originally he planned a desert proposal at sunset, but as the time drew closer the nerves got the better of him. A proposal is a big to do. Instead, he aimed for a morning proposal at Devil’s Bridge. I am going to share those photos below with some casual pictures we took throughout the day. If you scroll half way through, you will find the sunset desert engagement photo shoot we planned. Caroline knew of this photo shoot ahead of time as a means to “build my portfolio”, but she had no idea it would be for her real engagement!
Because we had a bit of a drive ahead of us, we took off around four in the morning to get to Devils’ Bridge. On our way we saw these hot sir balloons taking flight in the distance. This is going to be a long post today because I have so many photos to share with you from the proposal to the road trip to the engagement session.
After a long and steep hike up to Devil’s Bridge, we all sat down for a quick breather. The bridge formation is narrow and quite the cliff. On top of the heights, Garret had to work up the courage to pop the question.
With Caroline’s support, he made the first steps to the bridge. A very symbolic way to propose.
And then he did it!
And Caroline said yes!
The whole hike down, they were on cloud nine.
In the village of Sedona, they bought matching t-shirts. These are a few casual photos we took on our road trip.
Taking photographs in high sun is not usually ideal, but look at that sky!
And now, for the official engagement photo shoot:
Five steps into the first spot we found, we met a giant diamond back rattlesnake. So we quickly relocated out of that park and found this fun spot along the side of a road. We stayed on rattlesnake watch quite diligently the rest of the time we were there.
Garret’s James Dean moment:
Congratulations, Caroline and Garret!
