How To Keep your Engagement Ring Sparkling

If you’re newly engaged or have been married for years, your engagement ring is more than just a ring; it is a sentimental reminder of the one you love and perhaps even some of your most beautiful memories. People will notice your ring every time you use your left hand to pick something up, pay at the check out counter, or sign a document. When you’re newly engaged, people will ask you to show off the ring. On your wedding day you will want your ring to really shine. I don’t know about you, but I get embarrassed when I haven’t cleaned mine in a while and its looking dirty and people ask to see it up close. Dirt and grime from the things we touch tend to collect in our rings and the oils in our skin make a shiny gem stone look cloudy.

You do not need expensive ring cleaners, harmful chemicals, to bring your ring to a jeweler, or risky jewelry cleaning machines to have your ring look brand new. In fact, many fancy cleaning devices can loosen prongs and pull out stones. No one wants to lose a diamond!

If you’re planning a wedding or your engagement photo shoot, you will want to take extra care to the detail of your ring because it will be photographed up close.

There is a simple and fast way to make your ring sparkle like new and you probably already have the tools right at home. This method is extremely effective, fast, easy, and gentle on your ring. I do this method as needed, or about once a week.

Step one: Pour some organic dish soap into a small bowl and then fill it with very warm (but not boiling hot) water.

Step two: Let your ring soak for two minutes to loosen the grime that has accumulated.

Step three: Gently use a natural eye shadow or small and soft makeup brush to get in between small spaces and behind the stone to brush away dirt particles and sticky residue. Avoid using abrasive brushes like toothbrushes that can pull at prongs or scratch softer stones.

Special tip: The underside of your stone is where all of the light is reflected, creating that beautiful sparkle that you admire. To have your ring shining like new, you will want to make sure that you thoroughly clear the underside of the stone.

step four: Rinse your ring with warm water (cold or hot water can fog up your stone which can create water spots when it dries).

step five: Gently pat dry with a soft cloth and enjoy the shine. Your ring will sparkle like new!
