How to Spend A Beautiful Autumn Day in Stowe, Vermont | New England Travel

The best way to spend a beautiful autumn morning in New England is in Stowe, Vermont. We left our cozy airbnb cabin in Craftsbury and started our trip towards Stowe. On the way we came across this lovely historic covered bridge in Wolcott. Every so often you will stumble upon one of these treasures. Matthew and I pulled over to get a closer look. 

We continued into Stowe and knew we made it when we caught sight of this iconic church steeple.Northern Vermont is very rural and Stowe was one of the larger towns we came across on our road trip. It looked a lot like some of my favorite Connecticut towns at home. If you adore Kent Connecticut, then you will absolutely love Stowe Vermont. For my friends who like to ski, there is also a Ski Museum in Stowe. 
First things first: breakfast. There are many cute places to eat on Main Street, but we fell in love with the Butler House Inn. Get to the Butler’s Pantry early though to sign up for the waiting list. It was well worth the little wait. As we waited for our seat to become available we wandered around town. My favorite morning staple: tea. This time I tried something new. I usually go for my favorite for breakfast: an omelet with spinach and american cheese with a side of whole wheat toast. They had a menu with all the New England breakfast favorites, but my eye was drawn to this unique acai bowl. I knew I had to try it. I was amazed by how large it was though! Underneath this incredible collection of fruit topped with coconut was a frozen smoothie blend of acai and blueberries. One of the many things I love about Vermont are the country stores. The Stowe Country Store has everything you’ll need for an outdoor hike and a yummy breakfast. Stop here for hiking boots, warm socks, and maple syrup. The leaf-shaped bottles make lovely gifts this time of year, especially as a sweet stocking-stuffer. Just three miles north of town is the Trapp Family Lodge. When the Von Trapp family fled Austria, they settled here in the mountains of Stowe. The lodge itself is still owned by the Von Trapp family. We came past the leaf season, but it was still a gorgeous view.Croquet, anyone? Ok, so it is not Austria, but I had to have my Sound of Music moment. The hills were so alive! The lodge is more than just a place to stay; you will find hiking and biking trails here along with ski slopes and pathways for snow shoeing. There is also a ski and bike repair shop. The town of Stowe has a whole collection of trails for beginners and the more advanced. And back on the road. As you’re leaving Stowe, you will come across the Ben and Jerry’s Factory! Factory tours and tastings occur all day long. Come to the earliest tour to avoid the busy crowds. We decided to skip the factory this time around because we didn’t want to waste the rest of our daylight in one place. The line was certainly very long. We’re planning another Vermont adventure for next Fall to see the factory as well as Cabot’s. There is also a lovely looking brewery just down the road from here. Next stop; Burlington.
