Fall reading lists are all about cozy for me. I love an emotional classic, a slightly spooky and fun read, an autumn themed contemporary romance (bonus points if it takes place in my home of New England), and books that help me better myself. Books I like to read in the autumn are feel good reads; books that are easy to cozy up to outside on a warm-is fall day or inside on a chilly autumn evening with a comfy blanket. I never have time to read every book on my wish list (at least, not in a single season so sometimes I bump them to next season or save them on my reading wish list for next year).
This year I have a few books that I am hoping will help me to delve deeper into healing my life and cultivating better mental health. I thought I would share them with you on this list because there are many of us who can benefit from some compassionate psychology. How To Heal Yourself From Depression When No One Else Can is one of those empowering books that you may want to add to your list.
If you have been feeling stuck in a cycle of anxiety, depression, or just poor mental health then this book is for you too. Or if your family of origin was toxic, traumatic, or abusive in any way, this book may help you heal your soul. It is amazing how much our pasts hold us back without us ever realizing that the patterns we are experiencing now were formed in the past. And if you are looking for more flexible thinking or a positive mindset change, Everything Is Figureoutable is one to add to your list. I have a few other non-fiction books on this list, but most of them are fiction books.
Along with a couple of classics such as Persuasion and Wuthering Heights (I love reading Wuthering Heights this time of the year) I have some lighter books as well. The Little Bookshop On The Corner is a book that I am reading now and it has given me all of the feel good vibes I needed this fall. The main character is being laid off from her library job in England and quite spontaneously decides to start a mobile bookstore in Scotland. I have a few contemporary romance novels on this list (mostly centered around autumn and Halloween) including a couple Hallmark novels. Hallmark just makes you feel good.
And for my simple living enthusiasts, autumn is the best time to nest in at home as the days get shorter and the nights get colder. There is a book about cottagecore, and a few about slow simple living. If you have found yourself too busy lately you might want to pick up a copy of How To Do Nothing by Jenny Odell.
