My Top 12 Timeless Spring Wardrobe Staples

In New England, we have all four seasons, but also an endless amount of transitions and in-between days. In Spring it will be warm and sunny one day, flurrying one morning, then raining the next. The temperature can fluctuate between thirty degrees in 24 hours. You never know what you’re going to get. These are my top thirteen Spring wardrobe staples that help me stay prepared and fashionable all Spring long and are timelessly in style year after year.

These are the twelve items in my spring wardrobe that I reach for year after year.

One. Classic rain boots.

I finally replaced my old ripped boots last spring. I had a pair throughout college that I absolutely loved until they slowly fell apart and crumbled piece by piece. They were very loved boots, but they sadly did not last. I had been putting off getting a new pair for over four years now because they’re expensive, but last year I purchased a classic pair of navy rain boots, and it looks like I chose well because they came in handy very often last spring!

When searching for a pair I saw so many that I absolutely loved; some with bees on them, others with flowers, and another cute polka dot pair similar to my old boots. I opted for plain navy blue. They will go with every outfit I wear and also fit any season I need them; including autumn and winter occasions. I was shocked to see that most rainboots cost around $100! Thankfully I found this pair for Under $80 on Amazon by Chooka and they had great reviews.

Two. A timeless denim jacket.

This is a timeless jacket that never goes out of style. Every year I always see them come back in so they’re a great investment for a nice lightweight jacket this time of year. I actually own a couple beloved pairs of denim jackets; a light wash I found a few years ago and a dark blue denim that I bought a couple years ago. And last year I did make myself a vintage denim fringe jacket for some fun. But all you need is one classic light wash and one dark blue jean jacket to last a lifetime.

Three. The trench coat.

I really love my long blush trench that I bought two years ago. We have so many in-between days, it is always smart to have an extra layer and trench coats add a dash of sophistication to any outfit. Your does not have to be pink. A classic tan or beige never goes out of style.

Four. High waisted light wash jeans.

These jeans are flattering on absolutely everyone. I don’t know why I kept away from high waisted jeans for so long. I purchased a couple pairs last year from inexpensive shops and they were not that great. I thought they were at the time, but they tend to get saggy after wear and washing. I don’t buy designer jeans because I have other things I would rather use my money for (hello travel!) but I did decide to invest in a few good pairs last summer and earlier this year and purchased these ones from Pacsun and Old Navy. I love the fit and the durability of these jeans. They really last and they’re worth the extra money. I mostly wear a light wash for springtime. The pair pictured about are the Rockstar high waisted straight jeans from Old Navy in a light wash.

Five. The linen dress.

Linen is just so Spring! I feel feminine when I wear linen, like I should be off in some flower field in France. When I think of linen dresses I think of gardens and simple days outdoors. I prefer mine a longer below the knee length this time of year. The beige and the yellow were from Nordstrom and Modcloth that I bought for my honeymoon.

Six. White tennis shoes.

A girl needs comfy walking shoes. What I love about white tennis shoes is that you can find them for very affordable prices and they go with almost everything; sun dresses, shorts, jeans, and jumpsuits too. They’re very easy to find this time of year in shops like H&M, Target, and Old Navy.

Seven. What is Spring without some florals?

Anything floral will do, but I love a subtle floral blouse that can be worn casually or dressed up. I wear this blouse with jeans, shorts, or tucked into long high waisted skirts for days at the office.

Eight. A basket bag.

Basket bags have been having their moment over the past couple years. Even if they were “out of style” I would still carry mine around every Spring because I simply love baskets! These bags can be dressed up or worn casually too, making them a versatile purse replacement. I often carry one with me for grocery shopping or use a smaller one as a purse.

Nine. Overalls!

They’re back in style! Not that I care about what is “in” or anything because I have had my overall shorts since high school and I bring them out of my closet every Spring. When I was growing up we had a vegetable garden. I always donned my overalls when I went outside to help plant, weed, or pick vegetables. When I see a pair of overalls I immediately think Spring. I also like to wear them while I am performing creative projects around the home or while working on crafts like painting and home repairs. If you’re not a fan of overalls, a jumpsuit is a great substitute and they come in casual and formal styles.

Ten. A midi skirt.

Midi skirts are so classically feminine and spring. I like mine simple and 90’s inspired, much like the one Emma Stone wore in La la Land.

Eleven. The wide leg pant.

I have always been a dresses and skirts girl, but I’m really loving pants this year. Perhaps it is because so many styles are in season this year (as it should be). I feel that pants are so creative this year and the wide legged pant have been a personal favorite for this time of year. Wide legged crop jeans instantly make me think of the joy of the Mamma Mia movies. I also love wide legged pants with stripes. White wide leg cropped pants are also a wonderful Spring look.

Twelve. Midi-dresses.

I love the beauty of New England winters, but I am not a fan of the cold. Dresses are my favorite clothes to wear, but I rarely get the chance to wear them before April. Long sleeved midi-dresses are a great way to ease into slightly warmer, yet still chilly, spring days. I layer them with sweaters, cardigans, and spring jackets.
