New Milford, CT | Connecticut Charm

Get ready to fall in love with New Milford. When I was younger, I had passed through this town a few times with my father, but I had never gone out to explore New Milford for the sake of seeing the sights. I knew from local legend that the town was one of the small Connecticut towns that inspired the show Gilmore Girls, especially the town green with the iconic green and white gazebo. Last year I took you on another tour of Washington, the first town that inspired the show, so it made perfect sense to see New Milford this Spring, especially now that the skies are getting blue.

This little town has a fun city feel to it. Besides the town green and gazebo, there are numerous restaurants, an arts center, cute boutiques, a historic theater, artists studios, and a new and improved book shop. Matthew has declared it to be his new favorite Connecticut destination town along towns like Guilford and Mystic.

The entrance to the town library:This fun building is a flower shop! Unfortunately it was closed during our visit, but it looks like a sweet place. A Connecticut staple: gorgeous antique colonial homes. This one overlooks the town green. The new Bank Street Book Nook is right next to the theater. Although small, this shop has the cutest children’s section as well as a “blind date with a book” shelf. I just love an old theaterJust about the best advice I’d seen all day. There are plenty of cute places to eat in New Milford, but this time around I gave Matthew the pick. He chose The Cookhouse, a fun restaurant build in an old converted barn. This is the place to go if you’re looking for some southern style cooking. We went at an odd hour between lunch and dinner so we had the upstairs to ourselves. The stars aligned because we were placed at the Elvis table. (I’m a big Elvis fan!)Some southern style comfort food. Locals told us it was good luck to touch the tank truck behind the gazebo. I am so excited to see the leaves come back onto the trees! This summer we will definitely be stopping back for some more exploring. We give New Milford one of our highest ratings and completely recommend that you take an afternoon trip to town for a visit this Spring.
