Postcards From Saint-Croix-du-Verdon | France | Lovely Travel

I have been noticing recently that when people share their travel photos online they like to call those posts “postcards.” I love real postcards; beautiful glossy printed photographs of far off places, sent lovingly through the mail with a message from a friend or family member far away. I like to think that the blog posts I create  are similar in a way, sharing images and a message from the places I have been.

When Matthew and I were driving from Provence to Nice, France, we made stops along the way when we saw something of interest to us (like this poppy field!) and Saint-Croix-du-Verdon was one of those places. The roads were very windy downhill and the car engine was heating up! As we were driving we saw a glimmer of aqua hidden behind some trees. . . When all of a sudden this stunning lake (Lac St. Croix) came into view! Our GPS told us to take a right, but we took a left to get a closer look and decided to go into town to see this magical place for ourselves. I promise I did not edit this photo. The water really was this blue! It was such a big lake that it looked more like a bay. It was shortly after 9:30 and the town was just beginning to wake up. It almost felt like we were the only ones there. We found this lovely restaurant that was just opening for petite dejeuner. Breakfast in France is small. We started our morning with orange juice, tea, crescents, pastries, and jam. We were so tired after our late night and very early start to the day in the lavender fields of Valensole, but at that moment we felt very happy and content. This view might just be my favorite view of all time. I get a little giddy when I see an ivy covered house! It must be from my childhood of reading Madeline. “There once was an old house all covered in vines…”After a short walk through the village, one that we later discovered is famous for being the most picturesque village in all of the Verdon region, we returned to our rental vehicle to drive to Nice.
