I cannot think of a sillier way to say farewell to summer than with a rubber ducky race. The corn stalks are tall here in Connecticut, which means summer is at an end and autumn is just beginning. Matthew bought tickets for the duck race at the Woodbury Carnival to support the Woodbury Lion’s Club a couple weekends ago and had to work, so I decided to cheer on our rubber duckies without him. I called my dad and we set out for a very unique country adventure. The duck race was held at Three River’s Park right between Woodbury and Hotchkissville Connecticut. The park has lovely walking trails and borders this amazing corn field. The ducks were released over the side of the little bridge and into the river which was lined with pool noodles to keep the ducks on course. And they’re off, like rubber duckies in a bath tub! Annual race-goers commented that the race can take up to a couple hours depending on how fast the water is moving. The children were not the only ones excited to see the winners. At the end of the race the ducks file into a funnel so the judges know which order they came in before deliberating the winners. Ten minutes after take-off the ducks funneled into the finish line. Alas, our duckies did not win this round. Perhaps better luck next year.
