The Little Things No. 20

The little things really do add up, which is why every Friday I end the week on a positive note with appreciation for the little things in my life that make up a greater sense of joy.  I hope you join me today in appreciating the good, no matter how small. I will also be sharing links from time to time about things that are inspirational, funny, beautiful, or important.

Because this is about appreciation rather than perfection, I’m not only including my professional quality photos, but some cellphone snaps as well. You can expect to see a more candid look into my life every week with my The Little Things blog posts every Friday.

Dear Friends,

As you are reading this letter on this beautiful Friday Matthew and I are away on an adventure (quarantine style!) around New England for our second wedding anniversary. We packed up our car and took off Thursday afternoon to either upstate New York (honorary New England), New Hampshire, or Massachusetts (depending on the weather as certain areas are going to be gorgeous while others are expecting heavy rainfall). We’re planning a weekend of kayaking and hiking. We celebrated our anniversary Tuesday evening with a picnic near the West Cornwall covered bridge.

We’re planning on sleeping in the back of our Equinox (that is why we chose an all-wheel drive vehicle with flat folding backseats after all) to keep up with social distancing, although we may stay in a hotel one night because it looks like temperatures are going to be in the nineties! We do not yet have a portable AC for the car at night and keeping the windows open is not an option with bugs, raccoons, and black bears. We are planning on picking up some travel essentials to make our vehicle into a mini camper when we travel, but not in time for this weekend. How are you traveling during quarantine?

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

This week, the little things I appreciate are:

Our new inflatable and portable kayak. We have only had it for less than a week, but we have already taken it out several times and we love it. I’ll be making a post all about it soon.

Our anniversary picnic at the West Cornwall covered bridge. (I apologize that the photos came out a bit small this week. I had them saved to my cell phone and I am not using my laptop to make this blog post so I cannot download the larger originals. As we’re out traveling this weekend, these pictures will have to do.)

Funny story is that we both bought our anniversary cards at different stores on different days and ended up choosing the exact same one for each other! We know each other way too well after nearly twelve years together. <3

Our wedding video. It wasn’t something that was originally on our must-have list for the wedding, but I love our movie by Vantage Point Films and we are both so thankful to have it forever! I watch it over and over again and watching it on our anniversary has become a tradition. I am so thankful that our future kids (if we have kids) will have this video of our wedding day. Our vows were phenomenal and the entire day was miraculously magical.

These sweet and playful horses in Bridgewater Connecticut.

Our darling Madeleine. I love waking up to this sweet sleepy face!

I am thankful for bumblebees.

This article by BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-53052917 I believe that this is an important one to read. It was heartbreaking to imagine, but it explains so much about what is happening to the minority communities in the United States right now. Truly, this article is essential and I hope you take the time to read it.

Creating my summer reading list.

These beautiful New England homes. Matthew and I discovered a new (to us) town this week between Torrington and Norfolk. It is called Drakeville and has a few incredible state parks. Drakeville is actually a part of Torringotn. Many Connecticut towns have separate parts of town with their own names, like Niantic is to Old Lyme, Southford is to Southbury, and Sandy Hook is to Newtown. I call them “subtowns.”

Picnic season is here at last!

With appreciation,

Courtney
