The Little Things No. 33

The little things really do add up, which is why every Friday I end the week on a positive note with appreciation for the little things in my life that make up a greater sense of joy.  I hope you join me today in appreciating the good, no matter how small. I will also be sharing links from time to time about things that are inspirational, funny, beautiful, or important.

Because this is about appreciation rather than perfection, I’m not only including my professional quality photos, but some cellphone snaps as well. You can expect to see a more candid look into my life every week with my The Little Things blog posts every Friday.

Dear Friends,

Autumn makes my cup feel full, but it also depletes most of my energy stores as autumn is my biggest season for photography, especially after a long pandemic where all my weddings were postponed until now. Still, it feels so good to be photographing weddings again. The key is to take time out to unplug and to be intentional. I like to read a magazine or a paperback that I slip into my purse. Right now I’m reading “Persuasion” by Jane Austen. I must admit, I have never read it before although I am a big Jane Austen fan. It is truly a work of art and I’m only several chapters in. More good news is that my new wedding site is fully functional, although I know I’ll be making more changes and updates to it. You can check it out at www.livelovelyphotography.com. I blogged my first wedding of the season last week. It’s going to be a very busy month ahead as I edit photos, prepare USBs, blog weddings, order prints and design albums.

On the other hand, everything else in my life slows down for the most part, I really appreciate the quiet and crisp autumn days as the leaves are changing. Matthew has been feeling really stressed with school and work so I’ve made sure we’ve had some time out in nature. We went for a drive last weekend the day before the wedding I photographed and came across a dirt road on the border between Connecticut and Massachusetts. We drove down it and pulled over to turn around when we saw a sign that read “waterfall” with an arrow to the right. We heard some water rushing so we thought it wouldn’t hurt to take a quick look and it turned out to be a darling two-tiered waterfall at the end of the path and no one was around but us.

The little things I appreciate this week:

Yankee magazine’s autumn issue.

This thermos. I ordered it form amazon a few years ago and it keeps my beverages so hot/cold for long periods of time. A perfect companion for a road trip or a picnic.

Spending quality time outdoors with Matthew.

My beautiful wedding season. I’m always so thankful to my couples. This wedding in particular was really fun because I went to high school with Meghan and Tad! So many classmates were at the reception and it felt like a mini reunions.

On Monday I went for a photo walk at a nearby town to take in the autumn sights. That is where I took the photo at the top of the post and these two below.

Apple season and the start of my Autumn In New England blog series, which premiered yesterday.

What little things were the highlight of your week?

With appreciation,

Courtney
