The Little Things No. 38

The last Friday of every month I like to reflect on the past four weeks and appreciate the little things. I truly believe that gratitude is one of our greatest gifts and helps us find happiness in the every day. Previously, I shared a “The Little Things” post at the end of every week, but I felt that a monthly reflection was better for my readers and it also made me see the entire month as a whole for all the good that it was.

Dear friends,

I hope that you are feeling more hopeful and vibrant now that spring is officially here and the flowers are in bloom. Here in Connecticut the trees are getting their leaves so early and it has truly uplifted my mood. A few weeks ago I got the vaccine, even though I have a terrible phobia of needles! I felt very brave and proud of myself. My husband Matthew actually went in with me, with permission, and I sat on his lap so he could hug me and hide the view of the needle. But hey, whatever works. I’m not ashamed of needing the help when facing one of my biggest fears.

Two weeks ago I also took some photos for a friend of mine. He just sold his sail boat to buy a bigger sailboat so we took these photos of his old boat, the Happy Camper, so he will have memories to keep. One of the things I love most about being a photographer is the fact that photographs mean so much to people. Restrictions in Connecticut are also opening up in mid-May, which means that the wedding season will begin again. I have missed being a wedding photographer.

These past few months have been so remarkable. I still have some sad days, but mentally I feel so much stronger and happier than I have in years. It feels amazing to finally have more good days than bad days. It took a lot of work over a lot of time to get here and I’m feeling proud of myself. I have learned over the past year how it is important to embrace the little wins, just as it is important to appreciate the little things.

This month, the little things I appreciate are:

These home grown vegetables in my living room and kitchen windows.

This cute house with dandelions that I drive by to and from my way to work.

The incredible blue sky the day I took sailboat photos for my friend Ben. (P.S. I took these from a dingy boat in the water! Got very wet with all the waves, but it was worth it.)

This sweet library overlooking the Cornwall covered bridge and river.

This park of daffodils down the road from my new home.

This plastic-free organic dish soap.

All the sweet spring books I have been reading.

This Vitamin C serum without Hyaluronic Acid. It has been so gentle and great to my skin.

These dandelions that I picked and dried for a dandelion infused body oil I am making.

This blue jay.

The chickmunks and animals are out of hibernation.

Madeleine, our sweet girl.

This growing asparagus, showing me that I have much more to learn about gardening.

My personalized flower press.

Matthew gifted me with this new bicycle last month and we have gone on so many great adventures since. This amazing 4,000+ acre park is right behind our new home.

What are the little things you appreciate this month?

Wishing you all the best,

Courtney
