The Little Things No. 53

I have not written or shared a “The Little Things” post since January of last year. In February of last year I was preparing to start my new job. My blog took a back seat. In fact, everything in my life took a back seat when I started my new job, began training, and then got overwhelmed throughout the year. I didn’t do a lot of things that I wanted to do, but even more so, I missed out on the little things. Working all the time just isn’t conducive for living well, even when you’re living simply. I’m trying to change that this year.

Matthew and I have been putting more effort into carving time for ourselves and for together time as a couple. I end up working a lot of weekends (for my job or for my photography business). I’m tired in the mornings, all day through, after work, and on the weekends. I’m just tired. That being said, I have been putting time into appreciating the little things. I have been thinking about my goals for the year. My word of the year this year is “flourish.”

I have been trying to eat in a way that nourishes me and take time away from the digital world to be in nature or read more. I plan to return to the things that I love like blogging and reading. I want to make more time for my own business and visit the beach this summer. I want to feel well rested, healthy and happy again.

Here are some of the little things I appreciated so far this year in 2024.

Angelina’s cafe in NYC. I had wanted to visit the original Angelina’s in Paris during our honeymoon years ago, but could not get in on the wait list. There are a few sister location in New York City. I had an engagement session I photographed in Central Park in January. Matthew and our friend Hansen we’re exactly thrilled at the idea of going to a fancy little tea room for hot cocoa, but they were good sports about it and we all agreed that it was the best hot chocolate we have all had in a very long time.

The sled we found for free at our local dump.

Reading from this book every morning:

These locally made washing machine sheets.

These bear prints in the snow.

These two books:

Seeds for the vegetable garden.

Our new mini greenhouse.

These joyful little vegetable sprouts:

Watching Hairspray with my family at The Palace Theater.

Visited this new-to-me bookstore in Mystic CT.

Brought home this Kim Carnes vintage vinyl with my favorite song of her’s, “Bette Davis Eyes.”

Deer prints in the snow.

These turkey footprints in our yard.

My weekly yoga practice.

These two fluffs!

Discovered a new (to me) sipping chocolate place in Mystic.

My family!

My niece’s reaction to everything she saw at the aquarium this past weekend.

A sweet treat from the Mystic Candy Shop.

Cuddles with Madeleine on days I work from home.
