Tide Hill Home | Giving Back To Our Estuaries

I am so very fortunate to live within a half hour of the beach. There was a time in college and for a few years after that a day trip to the beach was over a four hour car ride. Here in Connecticut I can enjoy the beaches along the Long Island Sound. Walnut beach in Milford at sunset is simply magical. But did you know that the Long Island Sound is an estuary?

An estuary is a partially enclosed body of water where rivers or streams meet the sea. What makes these estuaries so important is that they create a protective and calm space for maritime life to thrive. Estuaries have been nicknamed the “nurseries of the sea” because they provide safe environments for fish and shellfish to live and reproduce. They also provide food and nesting areas for countless bird species. Estuaries are vital to our ecosystem.

Tide Hill Home is a local company that makes the most beautiful linens and blankets, like this Heron Throw. I always carry a blanket with me because I never know when a local adventure will be waiting for me and this time of year you never know what the temperature might turn into. For this beach outing, I felt good bringing my Heron Throw because Tide Hill donates 10% of its profits to protect water and estuaries just like this one. This is a blanket that I feel really good about.

When I visit the beach I always bring a blanket and a book of poetry like The Captain’s Verses by Pablo Neruda, one of my favorite poets.

Tide Hill’s designs are inspired by the coast for their artisan craftsman textiles, which is what motivated them to give back to organizations like Restore America’s Estuaries (www.estuaries.org) and Water.org. I have been donating to Water.org annually over the past couple of years and I was really happy to know that Tide Hill has partnered with them. Tide Hill also protects our environment in other ways such as minimizing on their shipping packaging and replacing plastic bags with cotton bags. I love supporting sustainable companies that I feel good about. My husband can tell you that my throw blanket addiction is real, but with the Heron Throw by Tide Hill, it is more than just another blanket.

The Heron Throw blanket is so lovely and I adore the dainty details in the stitching. A blanket like this is towards the higher end of my budget as it is a very well made and of superior quality. It would make an absolutely beautiful gift. I would recommend this blanket as a wedding or engagement gift, as a housewarming present, or as a gift for a special event such as a birthday or another important milestone. The Heron Throw was the perfect light-weight companion for this cool summers night at Walnut Beach. Now that summer is coming to an end, I’m really going to miss beach days like this one. However, you can still enjoy the beach this end of summer and early autumn. With the kids back to school and the weather getting cooler, there are less people on the beach, meaning you have wide open spaces just like this one all to yourself on a weekday evening. Grab a blanket and a good book and make the most of it before the warm weather is gone for good.

A special thank you to Tide Hill for my beautiful Heron throw blanket. I will be taking it with me on many adventures to come.
