What To Wear In New England For Summer

New Englanders have a wide range of summer looks and the style is almost always a mix of casual and polished. Preppy attire including nautical themes and navy blue stripes are common along the shore. You will often see denim shorts and jackets, Sperry shoes, white pants, and L.L. Bean clothing as a part of a typical New Englander’s summer wardrobe. As for me, I tend to favor florals, crisp whites, my old faithful denim jacket, and flow sundresses for those hot humid days.

The weather in Connecticut is fairly unpredictable the entire year through, but you can almost always count on the air being humid during the hot summer months. Temperates usually range between the upper seventies to high eighties in Fahrenheit through a majority of the summer, although it is not unheard of for some weeks to reach up into the nineties and early one hundreds. Temperatures at night are slightly cool in early and late summer, but remain hot during the middle of the season. Through June and July you may get several days of rain and thunderstorms while late July through early August can be scorching hot and bright blue skies.

Women tend to favor flirty sundresses on warm summer days and men sport khaki shorts and polo shirts. Popular fashion brands include J. Crew, L.L. Bean, Tuckernuck, Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, and Land’s End. But honestly, wear the clothing that you love. You simply want to dress for the events you plan to attend, for comfort in the heat, and for enjoying the outdoors.

The Connecticut fashion statement for summer is typically preppy, but also functional for outdoor activities and adventures. Depending on the activities you plan to do, you will need a bathing suit, good hiking shoes, and a cute outfit for an afternoon by the water.

Popular outfit ideas include nautical striped tops and sweaters, white jeans, denim shorts with white t-shirts, floral or striped sundresses, flowy maxi dresses, and puffed sleeved tops.

I am a classic outfit repeater (and proud of it!). Here are a few of the summer outfits I wear over and over again:
