On our recent trip to Paris in June I very selectively packed my suitcase for the city of Romance. The last time I was in the city almost eight years ago, I was unprepared for the weather and the city itself. This time I wanted to be chic and fit in with the Parisians. Summer in Paris can get hot, but it was actually quite cool in June, especially the nights when I wore a thick sweater and pants.
I packed mostly dresses in a pastel pallet: blush pinks and baby blues, to compliment the lightness of the city itself. For our date night I packed a navy dress in a simple silhouette. The French are known for wearing a lot of navy blues, whites, blacks, and sometimes reds.
Women in Paris do love their high heels, but I knew we would be doing a lot of walking and I wanted to be comfortable. Instead I packed versatile sandals with a tiny heel for added sophistication. This post is all about photos of the outfits I wore and where I wore them.
For a sunny day at the Eiffel Tower sunglasses or a simple sunhat are essential. I wore a pink A-line dress with off-the-shoulder ruffles at the top with simple brown sandals. I only used one purse during my trip: this versatile tan bag was small enough to be comfortable, but large enough to hold a camera lens, my passport, and all my essentials. The strap could be worn long, folded in half, or even removed to make a clutch. I used a pom pom key chain to decorate the purse on occasion and even tied a scarf to the handle to mix up the look. This is the only sunhat I packed for our entire trip. Its a light color that goes with absolutely everything and the black bow added a touch of class. I also changed the look using scarves and headbands to change the appearance of the hat. Another blush pink dress by Chicwish made it into my suitcase. I loved the vintage silhouette and the lace. It felt very chic, but also simple. It could be dressed up or down for different events. I also packed a matching beret hat for fun. I didn’t actually wear it out in public because it is more of a touristy thing to do than an actual French style. However, during the winter months these hats do make a come-back in bolder colors like red, dark blue, and black. This dress was perfect for mornings at the museums. I had a tiny blush purse that held my lipstick and cash for travels that matched the dress. And of course, the perfect travel accessory is a delicious ice cream cone! These were one of my favorite sandals, from Mod Cloth, that I packed. They were comfortable, but could also be worn with casual outfits or dressed up for date nights out on the town. The heel was small enough that it was not uncomfortable for long walks. Another pastel dress, this one from the Gal Meets Glam Collection, complimented Paris’s eggshell blue sky. Because we were having professional portraits taken in Paris, I also bought my gown, veil, bolero jacket, and bridal heels! (Portrait below taken by the very talented Oliver Fly Photography.)For our date night at the top of the Eiffel Tower, I packed a simple yet stunning navy blue dress, known as the Taylor dress from the Gal Meets Glam Collection. Before our trip I had to have it tailored to fit better, but it was worth it. Navy blue is a Parisian closet staple, but it is also Matthew’s favorite color, making it the perfect dress for our date. A dress with a vintage cut will never go out of style in Paris. I chose this dress for its timeless beauty.
When packing for your own trip to Paris try to pack clothing that will help you look like a Parisian. Think simple silhouettes, bold colors, navy blues, stripes if you love patterns, pastels, classic dresses, elegant scarves, comfortable yet dressy shoes, and classy handbags. Avoid overly casual-wear, sneakers, loud or busy patterns, and bright colors. You are presenting the chicest version of yourself. Whatever you wear, make sure you feel confident in what you pack.
