There are several great places to view the Golden Gate Bridge, but only one vantage point that will give you a bird’s eye view of the sun as it rises over the bridge and over the city at that is at Battery Spencer. The view is also stunning by the water at Baker Beach. There are numerous parks and walking paths that will give you a phenomenal view, however, we only had one morning and sunrise to spare before having to make it to the airport for our flight home. After doing our research, we settled on Battery Spencer because from up top you can see everything as the sun comes up.
When we arrived around 5:30 it was still dark, yet there were a few cars in the parking lot. We made our way up the path in the darkness a short walk to the view where several people were waiting with their cameras on tripods. There were tourists from all over, but because it was early in the morning, it was not too crowded.
The sun slowly inched up. We were amazed that most of the people left before the sun completely peaked over the horizon and we had the actual moment of sunrise nearly completely to ourselves.
It was a very cold and very windy morning, which made it perfect for snuggling up to watch the view. If we were better prepared we could have come with a blanket and some hot chocolate.
The city is waking up.
Next time we visit we plan on watching the sunrise from the beach, but we are so glad that we picked this view because Battery Spencer truly is one of the best and closest views you can get of the bridge for sunrise. It truly is one of the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
