If you live in New England, you have probably heard of their Rhode Island tulip field called Wicked Tulips, made popular every year by springtime in New England. Now they have a new Connecticut location in Preston! Just the other week a friend of mine, Lydia (known as @chiclyddie on Instagram) invited me to the new flower field to pick some tulips and take some pictures. It was a truly magical springtime experience. I had wanted to go to the Rhode Island location for years, but with the long drive and tickets going so quickly, it hadn’t happened yet. Imagine my happiness when I found out that a new location was opening up slightly closer to home.
Wicked Tulips now has a Preston location, which is still an hour and thirty-six minute drive from my home, but so worth it! After taxes and fees, tickets for entry total to be $19.50. You can find out more by clicking right here. The tickets include your visit and ten tulips. For about the same price as a bouquet you can pick your own. Any additional tulips you pick only cost a dollar each. Full disclosure; I did photoshop out people from the background of most of these pictures. I have included some real life snapshots of the fields so you have an honest view of what you will see. The farm is absolutely breathtaking and many people think so too, so there will be a bit of a crowd in the field, even on weekdays. The tickets sell out fast. There is plenty of space to socially distance and pick your own flowers and take pictures. Simply have patience and be kind to the other guests. You are all enjoying this together.
Lydia and I met a few years ago on Instagram snd I am so thankful for the positive connections I have made online. I’m so thankful to have gotten to know Lydia better and we always have a fun time together. Now that I know we can bring tripods to the field, I will definitely bring one next time so we can get a few photos of us together. It was so much fun taking pictures of each other. Lydia was kind enough to let me borrow her sunhat for a few pictures because I forgot men at home.
I brought along my new Birkin basket that I found on Etsy (that you can find by clicking here or on the photos of the basket below), but I had no idea that the tulips would be so tall! There are so many varieties planted and some are much taller than others. I was amazed by the differences in so many blooms. I highly recommend bringing a deep bucket to carry your flowers or a flat bed flower basket. Those are just the best for this kind of flower picking.
A springtime dream.
I hope that you get the chance to visit this season, but if not, you can always put it on your spring wish list for next year. Every season I get too ambitious and I cannot see all the places that I wish to so I like to pick my top three. Maybe Wicked Tulips will be on your top three next spring. Have you been? I would love to hear all about your visit or even your own favorite flower field or local farm experience in the comments below.
